On the water’s edge at London’s docklands, next to Canary Wharf, this modern and easily accessible hotel offers leisure facilities and spectacular views of the London skyline.

A range of air conditioned accommodation is available, complemented by a choice of restaurants, bars and the on-site Spindles Health & Fitness Centre, offering a heated swimming pool, spa, sauna, steam rooms and a split-level gym.

The Britannia International Hotel is next to the Dockland’s internationally renowned office development, outside the congestion charge zone. The hotel is only a few minutes’ walk from South Quay station (Docklands Light Railway) and Canary Wharf underground station – just one stop on the Jubilee Line from the O2 Dome (currently staging the Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibition until August 2008). London City Airport, Excel Exhibition Centre, Greenwich and the West End of London are all within easy reach.

Hotel information

The Spindles Health & Fitness Centre (access at an additional cost) is beautifully appointed and offers its own private lounge. It is the hotel's policy that all children aged between 2 and 16 should be accompanied by an adult when visiting Spindles.

Spindles is open 07:00 until 22:00 (Monday to Friday), and from 08:00 until 19:00 (Saturday and Sunday). Accompanying children are welcome from 09:00 until 12:00, and from 14:00 until 17:00).

The hotel has designated car parking spaces for guests with mobility problems. There is level access to the hotel reception, with lift access to all rooms. There are 6 designated accessible rooms, with roll-in showers available. Level access is possible to all 3 restaurants, with lounge service provided for drinks. Room service is also available. All levels of Spindles are accessible via lift.

Food & beverage

Crompton’s Restaurant offers fine cuisine in elegant surroundings with the added comfort of its own intimate cocktail bar. Full à la carte and fixed price menus are available. The restaurant is open between 18:30 and 22:30 (Monday to Saturday).

Jenny's Carvery Restaurant overlooks the old Jamaican sugar docks and offers magnificent views of Canary Wharf. This restaurant provides tasty, traditional food at affordable prices. The Big Britannia Breakfast, with its extensive selection of hot and cold dishes, ensures a super value start to the day.

Alternatively, there is an on-site pizzeria, allowing you to experience the bustle and decor of an Italian Trattoria. Traditional Italian food and a range of snacks and sandwiches are served in more informal surroundings.
The Conservatory Bar has floor-to-ceiling windows and a split-level bar to make the most of the waterside views. A wide range of drinks and snacks are available in this popular meeting point.

The hotel has 442 well-appointed air conditioned rooms with double rooms as standard, the majority of which host zip and link beds.

Rooms on the upper floors offer spectacular views of the Thames and the London skyline. These can be requested at an additional cost, subject to availability.

room was rubbish, next to DLR, small, antiquated, cosmettically ugly and the bed and pillows were the worst i have ever had the misfortune of using.

Friendly helpful staff at reception

Room service was appauling to get through to, had to go via reception most of the time. Gym cost extra set up cost and staff seemed a little put out that hotel guests wanted to use the facilities.

The hotel swimming pool wasn in much needs of a re-ferb. Nowhere in the
information did it say that hotel guests had to pay to use the pool.
Thought it should be included in the price.

Have stayed before (about 4 yrs ago) and service and value for money was

Location was good for Canary Wharf

The hotel was extremely dated and rooms of extremely poor quality and decor. The bed was uncomfortable and covered by dreadful blanket and sheet. Bathroom was oldfashioned and in deseperate need of updating. Definitely not good value for money. The whole place had a dark and dated feeling to it. Very disappointing in general will not be returning.

My room was noisy. And the furniture is old in the room. More important: There is no shuttle from the Hotel to the London city airport.

for the late booking rate I thought the room was exceptional. I was expecting something small out the back, so I was really surprised with the size and comfort of the room.

Health and safety issue. In the bar area there are 4 steps leading down into the lounge on the river side. As I walked down the stairs (in flat shoes) I lost my footing on the last but one step and fell twisting my ankle slightly. I then went on to watch at least 5 other people do exactly the same thing.This step must be less wide than the others, but it could cause someone a bad injury.

Proximity to Canary Wharf station and O2

Buffet breakfast was disappointing. While the choice of food was good, it was completely self-service, even tea and coffee were in flasks. Chambermaid knocked on the door at 0800 and came in to the room to clean before we could answer. She apologised but then we heard her do the same thing next door.

Dreadful rooms and food, an embarassment to the UK hotel industry. This was without doubt the WORST executive room that I have ever stayed in, poorly furnished, tired, badly maintained and very uncomfortable
